R01 Longitudinal Study

The primary goal of this longitudinal study is to investigate changes in cerebellar structure, function, and networks across the adult lifespan to better understand when cerebellar changes begin to occur, and how they contribute to the functional declines experienced by older individuals. By looking at individuals over time we can track change within an individual to better understand how structural change contributes to change in function. Furthermore, investigations across adulthood will allow us to better understand when declines begin to occur. Finally, we will also investigate potential sexual dimorphism in cerebellar structure and networks in advanced age).

Through transcranial magnetic stimulation(TMS), this study investigates the cerebellum as a stimulation target in aging and cognitive impairment. With the eventual hope that such
approaches may improve outcomes for individuals with AD
